2016-04-07 17.41.01Diaspora Missiology Educators Consultation: Singapore Resolution

Preamble:

In the spirit of the Seoul Declaration on Diaspora Missiology and in response to the Cape Town Commitment’s call to action regarding the “people on the move” and in obedience to what God has said to and through his Church during the Global Diaspora Forum in Manila in 2015, a meeting of leaders was convened in Singapore, the Diaspora Missiology Educators Consultation (DMEC), for the sake of discerning the way forward in raising up leaders who are well-equipped for mission in our borderless world.

The DMEC was a gathering of select educators, researchers, and practitioners of diaspora missiology for the purpose of defining, developing, resourcing, and delivering sound theological training in diaspora missiology. At the consultation we resolved to nurture informed and effective mission engagement to, through, and beyond people on the move at formal and non-formal levels.

We met in Singapore in 2-5 March 2016 with the following objectives:

  1. To articulate and affirm the importance of including diaspora missiology in ministry training worldwide
  1. To develop syllabi and resource materials for specialized as well as inter-disciplinary courses in diaspora missiology at undergraduate and graduate levels
  1. To explore curriculum development for those engaged in ministry among diaspora peoples.
  1. To identify key elements, topics, and themes critical to full-orbed diaspora missiological studies that are suitable for undergraduate and graduate ministry students as well as those engaged in ministry among diaspora peoples
  1. To explore and identify resources, especially Scattered and Gathered: A Global Compendium of Diaspora Missiology, for teaching diaspora missiology
  1. To accelerate diaspora missiology research, nurture dialogue, and develop a network of scholars and practitioners to recruit students and teach diaspora missiology up to the doctoral level

In light of our deliberations on the above topics, we hereby make the following resolutions:

  1. We resolve to use our knowledge, influence, connections, and skills for the development of effective diaspora missiology programs and curricula.
  1. We resolve to encourage theological training institutions, mission agencies, ministries, churches, and others to adopt and integrate diaspora missiology into their curriculum and programs.
  1. We resolve to nurture research in diaspora missiology globally.
  1. We resolve to identify, recruit, and mentor emerging scholars to research and write on diaspora related issues.
  1. We resolve to mobilize reflective practitioners engaged in diaspora mission.
